Pour compenser son édition 2020 annulée, le festival allemand de musiques électroniques Berlin Atonal se transforme un label et sort cette semaine un album et une compilation de cinq EPs, issus d’un coffret plus large comprenant une collection d’objets d’art.

Dans l’impossibilité d’investir les salles mythiques du Kraftwerk ou du Trésor comme à l’accoutumée, le festival berlinois Berlin Atonal – toujours fidèle à sa vocation de promouvoir l’avant-garde des musiques électroniques et expérimentales – vient de sortir une collection d’œuvres intitulée “More Light”. Elle comprend cinq EPs, un double LP, des vêtements et des tirages graphiques, tous disponibles sur son site.

La compilation rassemble 19 artistes de 14 nationalités, comme Abdullah Miniawy (qui vient de sortir un album avec Simo Cell) accompagné du groupe Carl Gari, Aho Ssan, le groupe A’s Tot Onyx avec Hiro Kone, Lee Gamble, les prodigieuses artistes expérimentales Caterina Barbieri ou Laurel Halo, Pablo’s Eye, Altar (le nouveau duo du compositeur de film Roly Porter avec le musicien Paul Jebanasam), le vétéran de la drum & bass britannique dBridge qui semble toujours avoir un temps d’avance, le Suédois Peder Mannerfelt qu’on recevait au début du Maison Tsugi Festival, ou encore la violoniste Galya Bisengalieva. Un bel éventail d’artistes qui touchent à l’électronique expérimental et à d’autres genres comme le jazz d’avant-garde.

Le double LP, lui, reprend la performance du producteur finlandais Mika Vainio lors de l’édition 2016 du festival, et tous les bénéfices découlant de ses ventes seront reversés à l’institution Alpha School for Boys de Kingston, en Jamaïque.

Ces sorties seront disponibles sous forme de vinyles le 29 janvier.

Parmi la collection d’objets proposés avec ces disques, il y a la nouvelle collaboration entre le festival et la marque de street-wear Perks And Mini / P.A.M. autour de deux T-shirts inédits, un poster de l’édition de 1985 restauré par l’artiste D. R. Boysen, ou encore un T-shirt et une gourde d’eau designés par Ezra Miller. D’autres objets et tirages graphiques réalisés par des artistes exposés aux éditions passées du festival sont aussi disponibles. Tout est disponible à l’achat ici.

In a year without a festival edition, #BerlinAtonal has put together artist-led collection under the title More Light which features new music, art prints and garments. The centre-point of the campaign is a major selection of new works by a range of artists from across the advanced musical landscape. The compilation spans 5 EPs and a wide band of the musical spectrum, with contributions from, among many others, Aho Ssan + Exzald S, group A’s Tot Onyx with Hiro Kone, Caterina Barbieri, Laurel Halo, Vladislav Delay, Galya Bisengalieva and Gerald Donald under his XOR Gate alias. A separate release comes from the late Mika Vainio and is taken from celebrated set at the 2016 edition of Berlin Atonal. The 2LP release is accompanied by the artwork from Vainio’s personal archives. All profits from the sale of this record will be donated to the Alpha School for Boys in Kingston, Jamaica. Also revealed is the start of a new collaboration between Berlin Atonal and iconic streetwear and lifestyle brand Perks And Mini / P.A.M. who have designed two different bespoke T-shirts for the campaign. Ezra Miller contributes with a custom T-shirt of his own and a designed Nalgene waterbottle. The campaign will also make available some high-quality limited edition prints from festival connected artists; Anne de Vries, Sasha Litvintseva + Beny Wagner, Pedro Maia and Stéphanie Lagarde contribute as well as a special photograph of the 2018 performance of Actress at the festival by Helge Mundt, and a restored poster from the 1985 edition of the old Berlin Atonal painted by D.
